South Korean Ambassador pays Courtesy Call on Vice Chancellor

Professor Ebenezer Owusu Oduro and H.E. Kim Sungsoo discussing possible partnerships

The South Korea Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Kim Sungsoo called on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu to follow up on the works of the former Ambassador and also discuss possible areas for partnership.

His Excellency Kim Sungsoo in his submission expressed their desire to establish a Centre for Korean Studies. According to him, the current Centre for Asian Studies makes it difficult to distinguish South Korea from other Asian countries such as China, Japan and others.

His Excellency Sungsoo also mentioned funding opportunities in the form of interest-free loans and the provision of equipment to Ghana.

The Vice Chancellor warmly welcomed the Ambassador and commended him for continuing the works of the former Ambassador. He expressed his support for the establishment of the center noting that it would ensure responsibility for the place. Prof. Oduro Owusu however suggested that, the center starts as a small corner within the Center for Asian Studies. This he said could be referred to as a Corner for Korean Studies and as the bond between the two countries develop, they can expand by building the Centre for Korean Studies.

The Vice Chancellor further admonished the Ambassador to speed up partnership plans as their competitors such as China and Japan have taken the lead when it comes to investing in the University.

Present at the meeting were the Consul of Korea Embassy, Dongik Jeong, Provosts of the Colleges of Health Sciences and Humanities, Rev. Professor Frederick Ayeh-Kumi and Professor Samuel Agyei-Mensah respective as well as the Director for Alumni Relations Office, Mrs. Christy Badu.
